EVENT OVERVIEW

This is an urban event in which you must travel on streets, walkways, trails, or open public lands to each of your controls. Your map shows all the possible routing options, many of which take you off streets, and it also indicates where private properties exist (stay off of all marked private properties). The terrain includes low rolling hills and three steep hills. If you take trails through thickly vegetated public lands (various shades of green), please stay on the trails (feel free to go over open public grassy areas and any mapped trails).

This event features one score-O course with two time limits - 60 and 120 minutes.

Competitive orienteers have the following three options for having their times verified in the results:

  • UsynligO smartphone app

This new smartphone app used by many orienteering clubs lets you keep your phone in your pocket or backpack for the entire event after you punch your start button. Whenever you arrive at a control location, the app records your arrival time and makes a loud audible sound to verify your find (you don't need to punch any buttons).

  • Question and Answer sheet

For anyone not using a smartphone app, we have a Q&A sheet with a question that you answer for each control that you visit. For these competitors to have their verified times listed in the results, they must compete on the initial event day (Sunday, March 21). DIY participants can optionally use the Q&A sheet on the DIY days and even submit their course times but those times will be listed as "unverified" in the results.

DIY orienteers can use any of the above methods or skip the verification tools and just hike their courses. If DIY orienteers use a smartphone app, their finish times can be included in the verified results. All other DIY participants will be listed alphabetically as participants without times (unless they submit their times as unverified times).

ASSIGNED START TIMES:

Participants orienteering on the first day of the event will be assigned start times to help keep people socially distanced from one another. Please arrive in time for your assigned time to keep things flowing as nicely as possible for our one volunteer. If you miss your assigned time, we should be able to assign you to another time, but you might need to wait for that start time while others start at their assigned times.

BEGINNERS:

If you are new to orienteering and need quick instructions on how to orienteer, please arrive at least 30 minutes early on the initial event day and ask for a quick (socially distant) beginner's clinic.
