Urban Orienteering in Multnomah Village has been the CROC season kick off event for something like 15 years now, and 2021 is no different!
Well, maybe a little different. No more nighttime mass start at the Lucky Lab followed by adult beverages.
Instead, it's a daytime event, that you can do on your own or with a friend, and you have a couple of weeks to do it at your convenience.
Note: CROC has a members only training event in nearby Gabriel Park on Saturday, February 13 starting at 10 AM. If you're already in the neighborhood, why not make a day out of it? Try the training event and then continue your orienteering fun with the Multnomah Village map.
Here's the scoop:
This event is free and open for both members and nonmembers.
The course is “open” from Feb 7 to Feb 21.
You need the map, the questions, a pencil or pen, and a couple of hours.
To get the map and questions, email the event director (johngo.pdx at gmail dot com) He will email you back with a link where you can download and print the PDF files.
If you’re feeling competitive and want to post your score and time: Time yourself, tally your score, email your results to the event director, and they will be posted after February 21. Timing and scoring are on the honor system. Start and finish at the Lucky Lab pub, you have two hours score as many points as you can.
If you're not feeling competitive and want to walk the course at your leisure, that's fine too! Start anywhere you want, take as much time as you like, and no need to email in your results.
General rules and tips:
Watch out for cars, especially on the marked busy streets.
You can visit the points in any order.
You can compete by yourself or with a team. If you're on a team, you have to stay together, no splitting up.
No GPS enabled devices allowed.
Look for those three point bonus controls, they can help your score a lot.
Look for small connecting pathways that connect streets.
When you're done, please consider supporting some of the many cool local businesses in Multnomah Village, they would be glad to see you.
