EVENT OVERVIEW
Happy spring! It must be time for CROC’s annual FREE orienteering event at Mt. Tabor Park in southeast Portland. We have an event here every year, and it is one of our most popular venues, offering hills, water bodies, great urban views and the popular volcano site.
COURSES
This year's format is a 60 minute, 40 control "Score-O." Find as many controls, in any order you want, within one hour. Each control is worth one point. Points are deducted if you come in over 1 hour. Start anytime between 10:45 AM and 1 PM. Electronic scoring (E-punch) will be used.
There will be a short course for beginners. Beginners are welcome at this and all CROC events. Free orienteering clinics are taught as needed. This is a great event for first-time orienteers.
New: Intermediate Clinics before classic Orienteering Meets
In addition to the Beginner Clinics offered throughout the morning, there will be one Intermediate Clinic from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. The April 1st topic at Mt Tabor is:
Distance and Direction
Learn techniques for Distance and Direction as you navigate along your course. We’ll practice Pace Counting and learn how to set and follow a Bearing. No cost for the workshop.

Note that CROC also has two permanent orienteering courses at Mt. Tabor, if you would like to try this terrain on your own at any time. (Of course, the permanent course control points are different). See the CROC website under "Training" for more details on these permanent courses.
VOLUNTEERS
All CROC orienteering events are put on by volunteers, and the meet director can almost always used some extra hands. Please keep in mind:
No prior experience is needed for many of the tasks
You can help out AND still run your course of choice
Your entry fee is FREE if you help out with a meet!
Typical ways to assist are: helping with starts and finishes, checking in folks at registration, and picking up control flags after the course closes.
Please contact the meet director at the email below if you'd like to volunteer at this event. For more, see the Volunteer page.
RESULTS
Results are posted to the Results and Events web page a few days after the event.
REGISTRATION AND OTHER COSTS
The event is FREE and open to the public.
Donations are accepted and appreciated to help offset the substantial City of Portland permit fees for this event.
