Training Compass Use and Distance Determination

Member Training - Compass Use and Distance Determination

  1. May 18, 2025 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

  2. Hamilton Island, Columbia Gorge

  3. For CROC members only

Learn about using a compass to orient your map and follow bearings, and how to figure how far in the terrain is one centimeter on the map. Trainer Bjorn Freeman-Benson has planned several exercises to practice these techniques which are essential to good navigation. After the training you can apply these skills to an orienteering meet at the same location; register separately for the meet.

This training is for CROC members only; there is no cost. Register here by May 16 and we’ll send you the exact starting point. For questions and suggestions contact training coordinator Anndy Wiselogle.
