Reed College, in southeast Portland
For CROC members only
This training is really for fun, but you will learn something! Required: a charged mobile phone.
People work together in pairs, with one person walking or running to the controls (the “boots on the ground”). The other person, sitting comfortably in the shade, has the course map and instructs the first person on where and how to go (this person is the “control freak”). All the communication is done over phones. You will both learn how to communicate effectively in this setting.
Then the roles switch, so everyone has a turn at both roles.
The courses are short, in an urban campus with a woodsy trail network.
This workshop is for CROC members only; and there is no fee.
Phone-O starts at 10:00 a.m. sharp, so we can form teams and get started. Maps will be given out at the training, and people will be paired by orienteering speed. Or bring your own partner.
Phone O is offered at no cost for members of CROC. Register by June 23 by using the on-line waiver. For questions and suggestions, contact training coordinator Anndy Wiselogle. Once you register, we’ll send you the exact start location.
