Contour Lines - How to Use Them When Orienteering

Contour Lines - How to Use Them When Orienteering

  • Saturday, April 30 10:00 a.m.

  • Pier Park in North Portland

  • For CROC members only

The ability to read and use contour lines is important for any intermediate or advanced orienteering course. We’ll learn how to read those squiggly brown lines: what’s up and what’s down; how to read steepness of the slope; should I go over or around the hill; and what’s a re-entrant. After exploring the contours of the park, we’ll work with a couple maps that have complex contours. Contour skill is especially important in forested parks where there are no human-made objects.

This training is offered at no cost for members of CROC. Register by April 28 for this two-hour workshop by using the on-line waiver. For questions and suggestions contact training coordinator Anndy Wiselogle. Once you register, we’ll send you the exact start location.
