Mapping Fieldwork

  • Laurelhurst Park, Southeast Portland

  • For CROC members

  • NOTE NEW DATE

Learn how to update an older CROC training map using new technology! The focus of this training will be to look at the terrain and choose ways to show it on an orienteering map. We will show you how to use your smartphone/tablet or pencil and paper to make or update a basic orienteering map. Then you get to try those techniques while converting an old version of the Laurelhurst map into a new accurate version.

We recommend that you bring a smartphone or tablet, with a free map-editing app installed (OCAD Sketch). Alternatively, we will provide paper materials if desired. We’ll send detailed information about installing the OCAD Sketch app after you register.

A couple of notes: Much of the time will be spent in the field. If rain is predicted, we may need to reschedule. Workshop size is limited.

The class will be led by Tony Pinkham and Virginia Church.

This training is offered at no cost for members of CROC. Register by October 27 for this workshop by using on-line registration here.

For questions and information contact Tony or Virginia.
