Event Overview
Nordic skiers - Want a workout for your body and your navigation brain? In orienteering, you get a detailed map with marked control points. The idea is to find specific control points, in order, as fast as you can, and return to the finish area. Even if you know the Bachelor nordic trails well, your navigation brain will be challenged. Enjoy friendly competition among your friends, or among elite level skiers, some of them maybe even members of the US National Team.
If this is your first time orienteering, welcome! Free beginner clinics are offered at this event to teach you everything you need to know.
We use an electronic scoring and timing system known as “e-punch”. Each entry or team needs to have an e-punch stick. If you don't have your own e-punch stick, we provide one for you free. If you have one, you get s $5 discount on the event fee. Using e-punch is easy. You can learn how at the event, or read about e-punch here.
What you need: Nordic skis, skate or classic (can be rented in Bend or at the Nordic Center), a compass (optional),
Courses
There will be three courses; short (about 3km) medium (about 7km) and long (about 10km). It will be a classic point-to-point orienteering format; find each control point in order as quickly as you can and return to the finish area. Longer courses have more route selection and greater use of secondary trails (narrow ungroomed trails made specifically for this event).
