Powell Butte Clean Up
2007-10-06
| Results |
There’s a corner of Powell Butte where the forest is singing a Thank You to CROC members. On Clean Up Day we took our sharp eyes and garden gloves to pull out the hardy invasive English ivy starts. CROC was selected to work on an area that had been cleaned of ivy by others in the Anti-Ivy League, because CROC has earned a reputation for careful and thorough skills in routing out the repeat offenders. I have a great deal of respect for this persistent plant that is beaten back mercilessly – and yet the next year it’s trying again. I only wish I were as persistent in my orienteering courses. Some of those plants are smart. They learn to hide in the sword ferns where maybe no one will see them. But the smartest ivy lives under the blackberry bushes – and they’re still there today.
