The Friday course at Crooked River National Grassland will begin 40 minutes earlier than previously scheduled. The course directors have decided to start earlier because the weather forecast for Friday includes high temperatures in the afternoon. Here is what this means for you
Your Friday check-in time was changed. It is now 40 minutes earlier than it was before.
Check-in times for other days were not changed
Please see https://eventreg.orienteeringusa.org/eventregister/a40/reglist/home/test-deschutes2021 (It says "Start", but for us it means check-in time)
Please plan to arrive at the Event Center each day at your check-in time. You can request a different check-in type by replying to this email. Exception: if you are coordinating child-care for your wee ones please feel free to choose your own check-in time
On all days except Sunday at Dutchman Flat we will have two parking zones: Regular and Preferred. Regular parking has a longer walk to check-in: 10 minutes for Grassland and Arnold, 3 minutes for Peterson. Preferred parking is for those who want a shorter walk to the Event Center, such as families or anyone wishing to conserve energy for the race. Participants can decide whether to use Preferred or Regular parking, but we do need about half of the cars to be in Regular parking each day. These parking zones will be well marked. Look for signs when you are approaching the event site.

Accommodations
Tent Camping
We have reserved a number of regular campsites at Tumalo State Park, lat long coordinates: 44.1284, -121.3315. (Copy/paste these into Google maps or mapping app to get driving directions.) We will not be camping in the group campsite this year.
You can reserve tent camping with your Deschutes Daze registration. We will assign two tents per standard campsite because developed campsites close to the city of Bend are in short supply. We think you will find this still gives plenty of room to enjoy summertime outdoor living and to maintain 2m social distance with your campsite-mates.
If you are coming to Deschutes Daze with an RV, please inquire using the contact form below so we can try to work something out for you.
Other Camping
Sisters Creekside Campground has reservable sites in a pleasant setting close to the town of Sisters. 5 sites available on 6/26
Pringle Falls Campground in La Pine has reservable sites along the Deschutes River. 3 sites available on 6/26

Public showers may be available at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center
800 NE 6th St. Bend, OR 97701 , Tel. (541) 389-7665, call to confirm
Up in the mountains, there are several walk-in, low-cost, high-scenery, Forest Service campgrounds located on Century Drive west of Bend (near the Dutchman Flat event). These are first-come, first-served, not reservable (no water)
Dispersed camping is allowed in the national forests, for example on the road to Dutchman Flat, in the area around Arnold Ice Cave, or around our new Peterson Ridge map south of Sisters (no water)

A Personal Message
March 13, 2021
We don’t take this lightly. Starting last summer the CROC Board and C-Meets Committee began discussions on how to conduct a safe orienteering meet. We started with the Orienteering USA recommendations and added detailed guidance from the State of Oregon to write our own CROC guidelines for managing events during the pandemic.
We practiced modified event operations by putting on three local orienteering meets last summer and fall. We learned what works and what we needed to improve. By the time we started planning Deschutes Daze 2021 last December we knew we could put on an event like this even if the public health risk stayed as high as it was then.
Our commitment to participants and ourselves as volunteers is to make the health and safety of everyone involved our highest priority. There is no such thing as no risk, but we have taken every step needed to eliminate points of personal contact from our event operations. You can come to Bend this July, spend four days orienteering with us, and not come closer than 2 meters to another person.
No one can know what will happen in our communities between now and our first start on July 30. We hope that most of us will be vaccinated by then and we will feel a sense of relief with this pandemic fading from our every day plans. But even if this does not happen as quickly as we want . . .
We will be in Bend July 30 to August 2, and we hope you will join us there.
